How does EA+ work with my medical insurance?

EA+ is an important stop-gap between what your medical plan covers and emergency medical services most health insurance plans never cover. Are there any restrictions about which countries I can visit and still be covered?

Yes. If you are traveling in a country on the OFAC-sanctioned list, you are not covered by EA+. If you’re unsure of the status of a country you are planning to visit, call us before your trip to ensure you will be covered at your destination. Who decides if I should be transported?

EA+'s medical team will make the determination after reviewing your medical records and may consult with the treating physician, if necessary.

In the case of a travel emergency, how long does it take EA+ to move me to another hospital?

This is determined on a case by case basis, depending on the location and the patient's specific condition. The member will only be moved to another hospital when the first hospital is not medically appropriate or following this initial evacuation, when the patient is stable enough for transportation home.

Do my spouse and I have to be traveling together to be covered?

No. If you are enrolled in the family membership, then your spouse is protected by EA+ whether or not he or she is traveling with you. The family membership gives your spouse access to the exact same services as you.

If my whole family is caught in a travel emergency, are you able to provide evacuation service for all of us?

If a family membership was purchased and if the whole family medically requires transportation from a medically inappropriate to an appropriate facility, this service will be covered. Each family member must meet the definition of dependent.

I am the legal guardian of a handicapped adult child. Is he or she also covered under the family plan?

Yes, the family plan covers you, your spouse, and your dependent children through age 18, or through age 22 if enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school, or at any age if for some reason you continue to be your child’s legal guardian.

I am not okay with having a stranger drive my RV home. Will EA+ pay for a family member to come to my location and drive me home in my RV?

If that is what you prefer, and as long as EA+ medical team deem your medical condition stable enough to travel as a passenger in your RV, yes, we will coordinate and provide for that.
